Weddings across the Illawarra

The Illawarra has an unfair advantage: the escarpment on one side and the Pacific on the other, often in the same frame. Clifton and the Grand Pacific Drive, Wollongong harbour and the lighthouses, the rainforest valleys behind Jamberoo, the headlands running south to Kiama. You do not have to travel to get variety here, you just have to know where to be and when.

This being home ground changes the practical side of your day more than people expect. I am not driving in from three hours away hoping the traffic behaves. I know which lookouts get busy on a Saturday afternoon, where the wind comes from on the clifftops, and which spots go into shade an hour earlier than you would think.

The Illawarra venues on my list are The Imperial at Clifton up on the clifftop near the Sea Cliff Bridge, Ravensthorpe at Albion Park with its manor house and formal gardens, and The Lodge at Jamberoo with its open-air pine cathedral. Plenty of Illawarra couples also marry at home, on a beach or in a backyard, and those days are often the best ones.

Illawarra FAQ

Illawarra questions,
answered straight

Are you a local Wollongong wedding photographer?

Yes. Wollongong is home and has been the base since 2010. That means no travel fee anywhere in the Illawarra, no long drive in on the morning of your wedding, and genuine local knowledge of which spots work at which time of day and which ones get crowded.

Where are the best wedding photo locations in the Illawarra?

The clifftops around Clifton and the Sea Cliff Bridge are the most dramatic, especially in the last hour of light. Wollongong harbour and the lighthouses are classic. The escarpment and the rainforest valleys behind Jamberoo give a completely different, greener look within twenty minutes.

Do you photograph small backyard or beach weddings in the Illawarra?

Often, and they are some of my favourite days. Elopements and small weddings start at $2,550 for two hours of coverage, with extra hours at $400. A beach ceremony at Wollongong, Thirroul or Shellharbour and a long lunch afterwards is a genuinely lovely way to do it.
